Fall is such a lovely time to spend time outdoors. Even if you’re not entertaining, it’s nice to have a great outdoor setup for you to enjoy some personal time – be it for reading, taking a nap or enjoying a glass of wine. Since fall is (unfortunately) so short, it isn’t essential to re-do an entire outdoor area. Instead, incorporate a few popular materials and your outside space will feel like a fall getaway. Three great autumnal elements are copper, reclaimed wood and rugs.

Let’s take a look:

Copper

This outdoor lounge table is fun because it’s really casual but elegant at the same time. I adore the idea of putting succulents in the bottom part of a table! (Notice the rug underneath, too).

Planters are always in-style, but sprucing up your plants with copper pots will give your outdoor space a nice fall effect.

These copper wall strips are gorgeous! They’re not as temporary as one might like for fall-time, but I can imagine they’re beautiful year-round.

Reclaimed Wood

No furniture is quite as fit for the outdoors as reclaimed wood. You can find gorgeous tables, comfortable chairs and stunning decorations, all from reclaimed wood. The beauty lies in their imperfections!

Outdoor lighting is a must if you’re going to be spending some time outside during the fall, as the sun starts to set a lot earlier than we got used to all summer long. These lanterns made from repurposed palates are not only beautiful, but they serve a great purpose.

Wine barrels holding up a big slab of repurposed wood is a simple, inexpensive way to add extra table space to your backyard, deck or patio. If you don’t have access to wine barrels, get creative with cinder blocks, crates or wood palates.

Rugs

Putting a rug outside may seem counterintuitive, but it really adds comfort to the space! You can go with a very rustic, outdoorsy rug like the one above, or get stylish with it and do something like the bright, colorful rug below.

This rug transforms the patio into a complete outdoor room, equipped with blankets, pillows and couches. Try to imagine what this space might look like without the rug – not quite as magical, right?

This rug is a more elegant option but it still looks beautiful outside. Just remember to bring your rugs inside if you live in a snowy state!

How do you decorate your outdoor spaces so you can spend time in them in the fall? I’d love to hear in the comments below!
