Eclectic Accessories – Give Your Home Personal Character With Objects That Matter

Eclectic accessories are some of the most fun items found in any home. They truly reveal who the owner is and give you a little insight into their lives. When decorating with eclectic accessories, start with items that give you a happy memory! Whether it be a tchotchke passed down to you from your grandmother, a classic piece of literature or an obscure flea market find from your travels, eclectic accessories really give your home some personal character.

Perhaps the best thing about eclectic accessories (besides the stories they tell) is that they can be mixed and matched, and because they are such strong pieces they don’t even need to go with the décor around them – they are a piece of their own! I did some searching and found a bunch of amazing accessories I’d love to put in my home. These should give you a little idea of what I mean by bringing personality inside with some fun eclectic pieces.

I think this painting is gorgeous and has just enough personality without being too overpowering. This would look great in a living room or dining room.

There’s something so romantic about an archaic book like these! Even if the book itself isn’t that interesting (double points if it is) it sure looks classic.

This brass cleat really has no purpose except for looking pretty! A piece like this would look great on a small side table or a hutch. Just make sure it has room to speak for itself, as anything nearby it might take away from its stunning shape.

Deer skulls have become very popular, but yours doesn’t have to be like everybody else’s. I love this one because it’s painted and encrusted with turquoise. You could always dress up your deer skull on your own, letting this idea inspire you.

Any good home has a coffee table book or three, and this Picasso one is a perfect addition to your eclectic accessories. If Picasso isn’t your favorite, there are thousands of other artists you could have books on instead.

Trunks are great because they have three benefits: They’re beautiful, you can use them as storage, and you can use them as end tables. The same goes for vintage suitcases like these:

Bookends are perfect for beautiful books like the ones above. But if you don’t have any of those, let a unique pair of bookends dress up the more dull books in your home! Get creative here – these come in all shapes, sizes, colors and designs.

This vase is absolutely gorgeous! It’s definitely a stand-alone piece, meaning it’s so unique and fantastic that it could jazz up an entire room all by itself.

Statues of all shapes and sizes fit perfectly into this category. The one above can be found at Jonathan Adler, and if the bull isn’t your style, there are tons of other animals. Just remember, eclectic accessories are supposed to tell a story! So maybe find an animal that you love.

When it comes to eclectic accessories, anything goes! Push your boundaries and keep it interesting. What kind of eclectic pieces do you have in your home? Share your stories – I’d love to hear!
